Unlearn the Hero's Journey, Cartoon Edition

Back in 2020, I posted a note that basically said that writers can overrely on the basic story structure that Joseph Campbell laid out in The Hero with a Thousand Faces. More recently, I came across this Tom Gauld cartoon that puts the same idea in a much more succinct form.Campbell's work is certainly useful and well-worth studying; it just becomes less fun when it gets treated as a simple formula.
